Jamie Dornan Surfaces in London After Officially Being Cast as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey

Jamie Dornanbentherules.com/WENN.com
Jamie Dornan's days of anonymity are over. Though he's been a successful model and actor for nearly a decade, the 31-year-old Northern Irishman became the most talked about man in Hollywood when he was officially cast in the upcoming film adaptation ofFifty Shades of Grey.
One day after Universal Pictures announced that Dornan will be playing Christian Grey on the big screen, the expectant father stepped out in London on Friday, Oct. 25. Hiding behind dark sunglasses, the blue-eyed actor wore a black pea coat over a white tee and jeans—far more clothing than he'll wear in most of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Author E.L. James confirmed Dornan's casting via Twitter on Thursday, Oct. 24. "Stow your twitchy palms ladies... our man is here. Welcome to #TeamFifty @JamieDornan1 x," the romance novelist wrote. James also directly tweeted fans of the book series, telling them she's "thrilled" to have Dornan on board and thinks "#HesGonnaBeGreat."
Hours before Dornan was named Charlie Hunnam's replacement, Dakota Johnson—who will play female lead Anastasia Steele—was photographed making her way through Los Angeles International Airport. The 24-year-old blond assisted in getting Dornan hired. "She's helping us look through the candidates to see which chemistry kind of captures our attention," producer Michael De Luca told E! News earlier this week.

Fifty Shades' Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson Won't Be Alone: Here Are 9 Other Steamy Movie Couples!

Jamie Dornan, Dakota JohnsonTim Whitby/Michael Buckner/Getty Images
Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele are getting ready to enter the Red Room of Pain.
After wondering who would take Charlie Hunnam's place as the male lead, production finally confirmed that Hollywood hunk Jamie Dornan will be stepping into the role, starring opposite Dakota Johnson in Fifty Shades of Grey.
And although fans may turn fifty shades of red watching these two actors get racy on the big screen for the adaptation of E L James' erotica novel, we must remind ourselves that they're not the first (or last) duo to get hot and heavy for a film.
Just take these sexy onscreen pairs as an example...
Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Breaking Dawn Part 1Andrew Cooper, Summit Entertainment
1. Robert Pattinson & Kristen Stewart, Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1:Obviously we had to include the couple that inspired Fifty Shades. For three books, Twihards were anticipating some sexy lovin' to go on between Bella Swan and her vampire lover Edward Cullen. And when it finally happened, viewers were left with a visual of pillow feathers everywhere and a broken bed frame, calling to their imagination to fill in the blanks.
Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Mr. and Mrs. Smith20th Century Fox
2. Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie, Mr. & Mrs. SmithTalk about tough love. Once John and Jane learn that they're both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other, the boredom from their marriage vanishes. Sure, things get a little tricky at one point, but the angst ultimately builds up to a very memorable (and sexy!) moment.
UnfaithfulRegency Enterprises
3. Diane Lane & Oiliver Martinez, UnfaithfulMorally, this is all wrong (hence the title). Sexually, this is everything. Connie Sumner finds herself going astray and begins indulging into an adulterous fling with a hot young man named Paul. Ultimately, her hubby Ed (Richard Gere) begins to learn what's going on, but before the you-know-what hits the fan, Lane and Martinez's characters give us scenes that make it hard to look away.
The NotebookNew Line Cinema
4. Rachel McAdams & Ryan Gosling, The Notebook: Not only did this film tug at hearts and require an entire box of Kleenex, but the romance between Noah and Allie was so electrifying that it became one of the most passionate love scenes in film. It also made many women long for a man that will not only pick them up and kiss them in the rain, but also write them a love letter every day of the year.
Out Of SightUNIVERSAL PICTURES
5. Jennifer Lopez & George Clooney, Out of Sight: Forget the fact that these are two very attractive Hollywood actors, their 1998 flick was actually voted as one of the sexiest films of all time, getting labeled as a "cinematic aphrodisiac." A career bank robber (Clooney) breaks out of jail and shares a moment of mutual attraction with a US Marshall (Lopez) he has kidnapped, including a super steamy (literally) bathtub scene.
Mila Kunis, Natalie Portman, Black SwanFox Searchlight
6. Mila Kunis & Natalie Portman, Black Swan: Guys may have turned down seeing this movie once they heard it was about ballet, but little did they know the psychological thriller featured one of the most talked about girl-on-girl scenes since Wild Things. And did we mention it's between Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis?! Fantasies came true with this film.
Toronto Film Festival, Anna Karenina Laurie Sparham / Focus Features
7. Aaron Taylor-Johnson & Keira Knightley, Anna KareninaThis pairing is great for so many reasons. First of all, it may not look like it from the photo, but these two actors get down and dirty (don't believe us? Check out this GIF). Secondly, the Kick Ass star—who, in our opinion, would have also made a great Christian Grey—is married to Fifty Shades director Sam Taylor-Johnson. And, to make the connection come full circle, his costar Knightley once dated Dornan aka Christian Grey.
Leonardo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, TitanicParamount Pictures
8. Leonardo DiCaprio & Kate Winslet, TitanicFive words—hand on the car window. Fans of the iconic film will always remember the steamy imprint of Rose's hand as she finally got it on with the young and handsome Jack Dawson. Sure, the naked drawing of Rose wearing the necklace (and only the necklace) is a big moment too, but that was just a tease for what was to come.
The Bodyguard, Kevin Costner, Whitney HoustonWarner Bros. Pictures
9. Whitney Houston & Kevin Costner, The BodyguardThey continuously bumped heads, but Rachel knew that Frank Farmer was the only man she could trust and turn to when her safety was in question. Once the walls came down, so did the clothes. And it was a beautiful thing.

Jamie Dornan, Once Upon a TimeABC

"Stow your twitchy palms ladies… our man is here. Welcome to #TeamFifty @JamieDornan1 x"
OK, deep breaths people.
The 31-year-old Northern Irish actor was rumored to have been the frontrunner to replace Charlie Hunnam after he auditioned on Friday, Oct. 18.

"They think she could handle whoever the guy is."
News first broke that Hunnam had dropped out of the coveted role in early October, giving Dornan only days to prepare for the make-or-break audition.
Novelist and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis gave his seal of approval on Thursday, Oct. 24, telling his Twitter followers, "I think that Jamie Dornan is the perfect choice to play Christian Grey in FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. Smartest casting decision in a long time."
And it looks like Dornan's already got quite a roster of celebrity supporters.
Actress Kate Mara was the first to congratulate the hunk on Twitter. "Congrats to the sweetest person/scariest actor I know, @JamieDornan1 !!!!" the 30-year-old actress wrote.
"#50ShadesOfGrey just got real. So fu$!in psyched. #blameIreland."

Lena Dunham has also been campaigning for Dornan on Twitter ever since his name was thrown into the casting ring. On Oct. 23, the star and creator of Girls couldn't contain her excitement.
"I'm a monstrous @JamieDornan1 fan. Wasn't allowed to be attracted to him on The Fall bc he played a sexmurderer. 50 Shades is my big chance," she tweeted. "Wait, Christian Grey isn't a murderer right?"
And it's just a matter of weeks before Dornan and Johnson hit the steamy set.
Reports claim that filming for the erotic flick will begin on Nov. 5 in Vancouver.
Who's excited?!

Jamie Dornan Replacing Charlie Hunnam? 5 Things to Know About the Fifty Shades of Grey Front-Runner

Jamie Dornan,Tim Whitby/Getty Images
Ever since Charlie Hunnam dropped out of Fifty Shades of Grey, we've all been dying to find out who will be the actor to take charge of that Red Room of Pain.
The name of every man in Hollywood with anything resembling smouldering gray eyes has been tossed around, but Jamie Dornan is reportedly the front-runner to play Christian Grey.
So just who is the 31-year-old Irish star rumored to be bringing this bad-boy dominant to life on the big screen? Kick off your Chuck Taylors and grab a glass of white wine—it's time to meet Jamie Dornan!
Jamie DornanCalvin Klein
1. He Started as a Model: Like many actors, Jamie's photogenic face and hot bod helped him break into the biz. Per the Telegraph, he appeared in campaigns for Dior, Aquacutum, Armani and Calvin Klein with Kate Moss and Eva Mendes. In 2006, he made his film debut opposite Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette. That same year, the New York Times dubbed him "the Golden Torso."

2. He Dated Keira Knightley: Jamie met the Pirates of the Caribbean star during a 2003 photo shoot in Manhattan. They quietly began dating, keeping their relationship under wraps for a year. They split in 2005, telling People in a joint statement they "remain completely committed to each other as friends and will continue to see each other in this capacity."

3. Now He's a Married Man: Yes, sorry, ladies, Jamie and singer Amelia Warner said "I do" in Somerset, England, on April 27, 2013. And, per the Belfast Telegraph, they're reportedly expecting their first child! Dornan's father and stepmother both work in gynecology and obstetrics and told the paper they were "delighted" their grandchild was on the way.

4. But He's Still Down to Get Dirty: Jamie plays a serial killer in the BBC SeriesThe Fall. He told Digital Spy about one scene that was particularly disturbing to film, saying, "I spent a day strangling myself on the back of a door while I masturbated to a driving license of one of my victims…that's not an easy day at the office! And they cut it out! I couldn't believe it—they didn't even tell me. When I first watched the series, it just wasn't there!" A little S&M is nothing next to that!
Jamie Dornan, ONCE UPON A TIMEABC/CRAIG SJODIN/KHAREN HILL
5. And He Fits Right Into the Fantasy Realm: He didn't play Prince Charming onOnce Upon a Time, but from 2011 to 2013 he played the Huntsman. "I mean, [the Huntsman] is a cool role to play," he told E! News earlier this year. "My only thing is that Chris Hemsworth is playing the Huntsman [in Snow White and the Huntsman] and he looks like a proper man. I look like, you know, a woman in drag." Clearly, that is not the case, but humility is always sexy!

Like Charlie Hunnam, Dakota Johnson Having "Tough" Time With Fifty Shades of Grey Fame, Source Says

Dakota Johnson, Hot PicsJason Merritt/Getty Images for Art of Elysium
Charlie Hunnam may not be the only person uncomfortable with all the attention he's received because of Fifty Shades of Grey.
A source tells me Dakota Johnson is also feeling the pressure.
"Dakota is having a very hard time dealing with all the press," the source said. "When she first got the role, it was way too much for her."
The source said that Johnson went from being a virtual unknown to someone "everyone wants a piece of."
"It's been tough," the source said. A rep for Johnson declined to comment for this story.

As we all know by now, Hunnam, 33, dropped out of playing Christian Grey in the movie adaptation of the sex-filled book just this past weekend.
"The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam's immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey," Universal Pictures and Focus Features said in a joint statement obtained by E! News. (E! Online is a member of the NBCUniversal family.)
However, sources have since told E! News that the spotlight may be the real reason.
Dakota Johnson, Melanie GriffithMarion Curtis/Startraksphoto.com
"More than anything he hates attention and being in Fifty Shades of Grey would force him to do lots of media," one source said. "That's really not his thing. Charlie doesn't want to be massively famous. Plus, he hates conforming and being told what to do. This role would force him to have to be something he is not."
Hunnam told E! News in September, "It's a big responsibility."
Johnson is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. The 24-year-old actress had a small part in Social Network and most recently costarred on the Fox comedy series, Ben and Kate.
"My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades!!! Look out world!" Griffith tweeted when her daughter landed the role. "Here she comes!!! #proudmama."

Charlie Hunnam is keeping head up after announcing he would no longer be playing Christian Grey.
The Sons of Anarchy star was "all smiles" at celebrity publicist Jennifer Betts wedding Saturday at Bacara Resort in Santa Barbara, Calif. as he gave a toast to the bride and groom, a source tells E! News.
Earlier in the day, Universal Pictures revealed Hunnam stepped away from the coveted role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey due to scheduling conflicts.
News.
"I wish Charlie all the best. x," Fifty Shades author E.L. James tweeted shortly after the news broke.
Hunnam was reportedly supposed to begin production on the film with his co-star Dakota Johnson in Vancouver Nov. 5.

Charlie Hunnam Taking Christian Grey Role "Very Seriously," Intends to "Look Good in Those Suits"

  • NEWS/

Charlie Hunnam Taking Christian Grey Role "Very Seriously," Intends to "Look Good in Those Suits"

Charlie Hunnam wants to reassure Fifty Shades of Grey fans that he's ready to temporarily take off his leather cut and rock a silver tie.
Just over a month ago, the Sons of Anarchystar swooped in under everyone's radar and landed the leading role of Christian Grey in the highly anticipated adaptation of E.L. James' erotica novel, and although he may not have been the front-runner—or in the running at all—for some readers (many were eyeing Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder), Hunnam is confident he'll do the character justice.
"There are so many fans of that book and I know that on the surface, I'm probably not what everybody imagined," the actor told Entertainment Weekly. "Because reading is so personal and people bring a character to life in their imagination, they feel ownership over that character."
The blue-eyed hunk continued, "That's daunting if I allowed myself to think about it too much. I'm taking it very seriously and intend to explore the nature of who this character is, what motivates him—and also dress up nice and look good in those suits." (Looking good in the suits, or anything for that matter, won't be an issue, darlin'.)
A couple of his FX costars also spoke out about Charlie's upcoming project, and have nothing but faith that Hunnam will bring it home.
    Charlie Hunnam, Pacific Rim
"When he told me that it was happening or that he was considering, it I just howled. I mean I think we all did. We're all like, what?" Maggie Siff, the lucky lady that gets to play his wife Tara on the TV series, said.
"And then talked to him seriously about it. I think he's very brave to it. He doesn't do anything unless he feels it deep down. He's not going to do something because all of his agents are telling him to do something. That's what makes me think it stands a chance of being really, really great. If he has that conviction going in, then you know it'll be great."
Katey Sagal, who plays Hunnam's mother Gemma, echoed Siff's sentiments.
"I'm really proud of him," she told EW. "The choice was not an obvious one for him. But for good or bad, he will throw himself 100 percent in. I don't know if I want to see all that, but maybe," while her husband and SOA creator Kurt Sutter added, "We're thrilled for Charlie. He works hard, constantly challenges himself and his craft. He is a star, in all the right ways."

What 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Will Mean For Charlie Hunnam's Career

Charlie Hunnam in 'Sons of Anarchy'.
Universal and author E.L. James chose Labor Day to make a major casting announcement about the upcoming Fifty Shades of Greymovie adaptation. Charlie Hunnam, best known for the FX TV show Sons of Anarchy, will play Christian Grey, the sexy older man in the trilogy.
It’s a huge coup for Hunnam who has been acting for a long time but has yet to land a role that will catapult him to the lever of A-list movie star. Grey could finally be that role.
Hunnam had small roles in movies like Cold Mountain and Children of Men but it wasn’t until 2008 that he landed a big role on Sons of Anarchyas Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller. The show initially struggled in the ratings but now it often beats broadcast shows. The 33-year-old British actor got his big American break in the TV show Undeclared. Judd Apatow’s follow up to Freaks and Geeks wasn’t a star-making hit like his first TV show which gave us Seth Rogen, James Franco, Jason Segel and Linda Cardellini. The show didn’t even run its entire first season.
But Sons of Anarchy isn’t the same as a big movie. Hunnam’s agents likely thought that the star’s gravy train had finally arrived when he was cast in this summer’s Pacific Rim. Although he likely wasn’t paid much to appear in the movie, there were high hopes that it would launch a franchise which would have meant big bucks for the sequel.
Unfortunately for Hunnam, Pacifc Rim has struggled at the box office. The film is doing better abroad. It’s earned 75% of its $405 million box office take outside of the U.S. But that performance is unlikely to spawn a sequel.
Hunnam has a better chance of becoming a franchise star with Fifty Shades of Grey. James has sold more than 70 million copies of her books. We recently ranked her as one of the top-earning celebrities with an estimated $95 million brought in between June 2012 and June 2013.
If Unversal can harness that fan enthusiasm, the movie should be a hit. With director Sam Taylor-Johnson and stars Hunnam and Dakota Johnson (daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson) Universal is clearly keeping the budget low. And although the millions of women who read the book will likely flock to movie theaters, the film is sure to have an R rating which is always a box office challenge. The movie likely won’t attract teen boys or young girls who can boost the box office of a film like Twilight or The Hunger Games.
So although the movies will likely give Hunnam a serious career boost, they won’t make him the next Robert Pattinson. Unless the first film is a runaway hit, Universal will likely be loath to boost future budgets too much to ensure that the films turn some serious profit. That means that they will do all they can to avoid paying Hunnam that massive amounts of money Pattinson was earning by the end of the Twilight series.
But it could set Hunnam up star in bigger, better paying movies down the line. The movie is scheduled to hit theaters next August.

5 Things to Know about Charlie Hunnam, Fifty Shades of Grey's Christian Grey

    Charlie HunnamDave Hogan/Getty Images
Following E L James big casting announcement this morning, Fifty Shades of Greyfans have been abuzz with the news that Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson landed the roles of Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele, respectively.
Take a look at the five things to know about the Sons of Anarchy star!
    1. He hails from the UK: Charlie is originally from Newcastle, England, and obtained a degree in the performing arts from Cumbria College of Art and Design. His accent (and talent) served him well when he landed he first big role as a British college student on Fox's Undeclared.
    2. He's a TV star: Charlie is best known for playing Jackson "Jax" Teller on Sons of Anarchy, a role he landed after the show's creator Kurt Sutter saw him in UK independent film Green Street, a film about British football hooligans, according to the UK's Independent.

    3. He's also a screenwriter: Charlie wrote a screenplay, Dracula-based Vlad, which Brad Pitt's production company Plan B and Summit Entertainment are slated to produce. While the actor toldGQ UK that script is "still sitting on the shelf," he's been writing another script based on the life of American drug lord Edgar Valdez. "It's an exploration of the death of the American dream. That's what I'm interested in," he told the mag.
    4. He works hard to maintain his ripped bod: If you've caught a glimpse of Charlie with his shirt off on screen, it's clear he stays in shape. He maintains his chiseled physique by mixing up his workouts with boxing, swimming, routines on a pull-up bar, and weightlifting among other things, according to Men's Fitness. He also plans to head to China to study Kung Fu at the Shaolin Temple at some point. "I'm happier, more confident, and more positive when I work out. And I feel like I'm a better actor because of the clarity it gives me," he told the mag.
    5. He's a romantic: After meeting his ex-wife Katherine Towne at an audition forDawson's Creek in 1999, the couple married just a few weeks later. The couple later split in 2002. He has since moved on to jewelry designer Morgana McNelis, who he's been dating for six years.
