2013 American Music Awards: The Best, Worst and Jaw Dropping Moments!

Rihanna, 2013 American Music AwardsKevin Mazur/AMA2013/WireImage
This year's American Music Awards was packed with moments that made us swoon, made us cheer, and made us stare at the screen in confusion.
From Rihanna's Icon Award win to Lady Gaga and R.Kelly's performance and Miley Cyrus's puzzling animated kitten, there were many memorable moments to be had.
Check out our picks for the best, worst and jaw dropping scenes from the 2013 American Music Awards!ut.
The Best:
Rihanna's Touching Moment With Her Mom: We're still a little puzzled over why Bill Maher introduced the "Stay" crooner to the stage for her soulful rendition of "Diamonds," but there was a super sweet moment to be had after Rihanna stunned in a black gown during her performance of the song. When the singer stepped on stage to pick up the AMAs first-ever Icon Award, her mom came out carrying the trophy.
"I'm so proud of you," her mom, Monica Braithwaite, said. "I know your journey hasn't been an easy one, but tonight I admire and applaud you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused. It's amazing how you manage to take good from all your experiences."
Justin Timberlake's Boredom: The "TKO" crooner looked super bored in the audience in the midst of Pitbull's nostalgic show opener. "It's a Miracle I'm here tonight," Pitbull said. The camera soon cut to Timberlake looking aloof and clapping slowly in the audience. He miraculously came to life though when he won Favorite Pop/Rock male, telling Taylor Swift she looked "lovely tonight" as he accepted the award from her. He went on to completely own the show winning Favorite male R&B/Soul Artist, Favorite male Pop/Rock artist and Favorite R&B/Soul Album for The 20/20 Experience

One Direction, 2013 American Music AwardsABC/Matt Brown
Jennifer Lopez's Celia Cruz Tribute: Dressed up in a colorful flamenco-style dress to pay tribute to the late salsa icon, J.Lo hit the stage with a gaggle of dancers for a performance that caused the audience to leap to their feet.
One Direction's First Big Win: Taylor and her ex-Harry Styles went head to head for favorite pop/rock album, with the boy band taking home the award in the end. The nod was particularly special to the group considering it was their first time at the AMAs and their first win.

Pitbull's Twerking Contest
: We don't know if Pitbull was having a twerking contest orwhat, but when he brought four ladies clad in black onesies on the stage to do a few dance moves, (the Doo Doo Brown, etc.) a very awkward moment ensued. The Worst:
Lady Gaga and R. Kelly (President Robert)'s Performance: In what looked like a "Trapped in the Closet" reboot, R. Kelly sang his way through "Do What You Want" as President Robert, while Mother Monster crooned the duet dressed as what appeared to be Marilyn Monroe. Never one to put on a tame performance, the pop star ended up getting straddled by R. Kelly before the show was done.

The Talking Cat in Miley Cyrus' performance background:
What does a talking (and crying) kitten have to do with a wrecking ball? We're not sure. That aside, the singer hit the stage rocking a very high cut-out leotard with kittens all over it and performed in front of a backdrop that had a huge anime kitten in it. ABC did its best to cut around her barely-there onesie. The Jaw Dropper:

Lady Gaga and R. Kelly Simulate Sex During Saturday Night Live Performance: Critics Weigh In

Lady Gaga, SNLHulu
Lady Gaga earned raves for her Nov. 16 hosting gig on NBC's Saturday Night Live. Her performance with R. Kelly, however, drew mixed reactions among critics. The musicians teamed up to sing "Do What U Want," the second single off Gaga's just-released album, ARTPOP. Their racy duet—and the provocative choreography that came with it—had many viewers scratching their heads.
"Gaga really brought the LOLZ when she was joined onstage by R. Kelly to perform their song 'Do What U Want, ' which involved the two singers, like, simulating really awkward sex. The dry humping! The pushups! The fumbling ass slapping! This is the strangest sexual encounter R. Kelly's had since, well, you know," The Frisky's Amelia McDonell-Parry wrote, referring to the R&B star's sex tape scandal.
The Daily Mirror's Zoe Shenton was equally amused, writing, "In a ridiculously OTT performance (what did we expect, really?), a sparkling catsuit-clad Lady Gaga and suited R. Kelly got very friendly with each other."
Blogger Necole Bitchie threw even more shade, writing, "Lady Gaga is no stranger to head-turning, jaw-dropping performances but this time around, she reeled in R. Kelly to partake in her stage antics...Maybe this encounter wouldn't have been half as bad if Kelz wasn't trying to get out of the creepy, pervert box he kind of fell in over the years but this was reminiscent of Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke's MTV VMA performance. At least they are both single, fully-dressed, and Gaga managed to keep her tongue in her mouth."
As MTV News' Kecli Shipley noted, "Neither of them seemed to exhibit any signs of performance anxiety."
Likewise, Idolator's Carl Williott said the musicians displayed "sizzling chemistry" on stage. "At one point, R. Kelly climbed on top of Gaga and most viewers were surely bracing for something uncouth, and well, it didn't come to that. Kells merely did a couple push-ups over Gaga's writhing body."
Entertainment Weekly's Erin Strecker, meanwhile, left it to readers to decide whether the singer's duet was appropriate. "If you're going way too far on purpose, is it really way too far?" she pondered. "Watch R. Kelly join Lady Gaga onstage for 'Do What U Want' and decide."
What did you think of their performance? Sound off in the comments below!

Lady Gaga Wants "A Ton" of Kids, Can't Stop Ordering Chicago Pizza

Lady GagaNeil P. Mockford/FilmMagic
Lady Gaga may be Mother Monster to millions of fans, but in the future she'd like to have some little monsters of her own.
"I want to have tons of kids, actually…I think at least three," the pop superstar told SiriusXM at a Town Hall discussion at their studios in New York City Friday.
"I really want to have a family and I really want to nurture my children and inspire [them]," she continued.
"To be honest, having my own kids will be like having three little monsters with me all the time. They probably won't be fans. They'll probably like hate my music who knows," she added with a laugh. "I want to live a family life. I grew up with a very strong family and I just cannot imagine not having a normal nuclear family."
Lady GagaDave Spencer / Splash News
While Lady Gaga didn't dish on whether her relationship with boyfriend Taylor Kinney would include those future kids, she did reveal he caught her chowing down on her new food obsession in a very awkward position.
"I love ordering Chicago pizza," Gaga said. "My boyfriend caught me once eating it in the bathroom in the middle of the night. I woke up in the middle of the night, and I walked it into the bathroom and I was eating it. And I heard the door opening. I had the pizza in my mouth and he just shook his head at me and he was like, 'That is just shameful.'"

Gaga, who has been spending a great deal of time in Chicago with her Chicago Firestar beau, said she finds the Windy City to be "really, really cool about me and what I do."
The singer started the convo with Sirius XM's listeners off with a presentation of her "ARTPOP" app, set to be released tomorrow, which blends fashion, technology, music and art and gives Gaga's fans the chance to interact with each other and chat with Gaga on Twitter as well.

A Highsnobiety Halloween | 10 Pop-Culture Inspired Costumes

A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-16

Halloween is a time when real personalities become worldwide phenomenona and pop culture standouts step out of the land of make believe and into true existence. We live in a world where we may not admit that the aforementioned “cultural ambassadors” influence our style, but it’s hard to deny the effect that some of these people have on fashion. Call it a costume on October 31 or just call it “my style” the other 364 days out of the year. Highsnobiety plays in a space where we encounter everything from outrageous musicians, to innovators, to artists, to fictitious people on a daily basis. If you’re in need of a last minute costume, we’ve got you wrapped like a mummy.

Kanye West
Hands down the most polarizing figure in popular music, Kanye West‘s musical accomplishments are often either complemented by his unique style or overlooked depending on who you’re talking to. West’s tour with Jay Z for Watch The Throne saw the Chicago rapper clad in almost nothing but Givenchy apparel. For West’s latest tour, however, he opted for a healthy smattering of Maison Martin Margiela. It goes without saying then the look will cost you a pretty penny and an unrivaled amount of access to the French fashion house. Just the mask, in fact, will run you a cool $20,000.
Coinciding with the Yeezus tour’s beginnings, the label announced it had produced a number of exclusive pieces at its Parisian atelier based on garments in its archives including an embroidered, elongated bomber jacket, a blanket coat and printed trousers. MMM also developed a special pair of sneakers for West to wear alongside his signature Red Octobers. Although MMM only officially announced its responsibility for some of the pieces, a report in London’s Telegraphcredits the fashion house with all the looks for the tour including 10 couture and 20 ready-to-wear pieces.
A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-13
On a regular basis, however, Mr. West can be spotted in far more affordable clothing, which for the layman is still quite steep. The good news is, these pieces will last you well beyond Halloween night. visvim‘s popular FBT silhouette are by now a staple of his wardrobe as are leather jogging pants which have been hot for a minute. Let’s not forget Kanye’s style advisor Virgil Abloh whose label PYREX VISION took over your Tumblr feed whether you wanted it to or not.
Brands/designers: Givenchy, Maison Martin Margiela, visvim, Louis Vuitton, Jordan Brand, Ralph Lauren, PYREX VISION

Tyler, The Creator
If there’s one brand that defines the Odd Future frontman’s style, it’s Supreme. In fact, Tyler is often credited with bringing the New York streetwear mainstay to the forefront over the past few years. Box logos on 5-panels and sweaters are a given, while classic sneakers from Vans are another staple.
More recently, the Los Angeles native has been focusing on his own brand done in collaboration with his cohorts. Bold graphics include illustrations done by Tyler himself with others featuring images of cats, dolphins, and camels. Unlike West and others on this list, Tyler’s look is a bit easier to replicate with most pieces available just a few clicks away.
Brands/designers: Supreme, Vans, Odd Future, Thrasher

A$AP Rocky
The only other rapper in the game giving Kanye any serious competition, A$AP Rocky has nearly perfected the art of balancing streetwear with high fashion, reflecting the ever-evolving menswear landscape. Although Rocky’s recent success has given him access to high-fashion’s finest, the New York native can still be seen wearing staple streetwear brands like Supreme and BAPE. Monochromatic outfits featuring cryptic symbols and premium leathers are equally as important to Rocky with brands like Rick OwensRaf SimonsBlack Scale and Hood By Air comprising a healthy portion of his wardrobe. If you manage to get your hands on some #rare pieces, the only other thing you’ll need are some braids and perhaps a pair of RETROSUPERFUTURE flat top shades.
Brands/designers: Supreme, BAPE, Rick Owens, Raf Simons, Black Scale, Hood By Air, SSUR, RETROSUPERFUTURE

Lady Gaga
Just like Yeezy, Lady Gaga‘s accomplishments are often overshadowed by her public image. Whether she’s in the studio with controversial photographer Terry Richardson or on a retreat with Marina Abramovic, Gaga’s fashion choices are always conscious and oftentimes puzzling. Although she rarely wears the same outfit twice, the 27-year-old pop star can often be found in either her birthday suit or something edging right on the border.
A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-14
Just when you think you’ve pegged her down, however, Gaga surprises with an outlandish outfit blending the flair of Salvador Dali with the stardom of David Bowie.
So what’s the key here?
Simple. Gravitate toward either extreme and you’ve got it.
Brands/designers: Charlie Le Mindu, Saint Laurent, Alexander Wang, Balenciaga, Versace, Armani

Pusha T
One half of hip-hop duo ClipsePusha T‘s efforts as a solo artist have proven just as successful with his latest album My Name Is My Name garnering both critical and commercial acclaim. With West as his executive producer, some of the Chicago rapper’s natural steeze has certainly rubbed off on King Push who can now be seen clad in the finest garbs from the likes of Marcelo Burlon and Alexander Wang. And the same success can be said for Play Cloths, the American streetwear line he co-founded back in 2008 with Clipse partner, No Malice. In addition, a leather-strap snapback has by now become a signature of the artist in addition to braids and more often than not, gold chains.
Brands/designers: Marcelo Burlon, Alexander Wang, Play Cloths

Steve Jobs
The man, the myth, the legend. Before you say “too soon,” consider the Apple cofounder’s uniform: three-piece rimless eyeglasses, a black turtleneck sweater, faded blue jeans and New Balance 992 sneakers. Not the most exciting wardrobe choices in the world but easily one of the most recognizable. Never one to overlook the tiniest of details, Jobs opted for the minimal clothing “because of its daily convenience and its ability to convey a signature style.”
In Walter Isaacson’s official biography, it was revealed Jobs enlisted Issey Miyake after visitingSony factories in the ’80s to make him some black turtlenecks. And by some, I mean a lifetime’s supply. You can keep it as legitimate as possible by copping a piece from the Japanese fashion designer’s collection or just grab any old unbranded piece from your local department or thrift store. Just like the man’s products, Jobs’ killer outfit revolves around its simplicity.
Brands/designers: Issey Miyake, Levi’s, New Balance
Pieces to consider: St. Croix Turtleneck501 Original990v3

A-Highsnobiety- Halloween-|-10-Costumes-for-Halloween 2013-5
Banksy
Although Banksy‘s identity remains a mystery, one can approximate his look through the use of stereotypical street artist staples. A hoodie, bandana, loose but not too loose trousers and running shoes make sense for their practicality. A hoodie and bandana for concealment, and loose trousers and running shoes for, well, running if need be.
Of course you can also go the entirely opposite direction on this and opt for an inconspicuous outfit which in reality is probably more along the lines of what the English artist wears when throwing up a new piece.
If you really want to complete the look, get yourself a voice mask and things like, “Graffiti is one of the few tools you have if you have almost nothing. And even if you don’t come up with a picture to cure world poverty you can make someone smile while they’re having a piss.”
Brands/designers: Palace Skateboards, Carhartt, The North Face, Reebok

A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-10
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus‘s performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards was one of the most talked about pop culture events of the year. Because of that, the outfit worn by the 20-year-old on that fateful night is now one of the year’s most memorable and is rivaled only by her equally scandalous outfit worn for the lens of Terry Richardson.
Whichever way you decide to go on this one, the key here is minimal. Unlike Lady Gaga, however, the other extreme doesn’t really exist at this point and the only other thing you need to do besides strip down is stick your tongue out. By far one of the easiest costumes of the year.
A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-11
Brands/designers: Dr. Martens, Marc Jacobs, Atsuko Kudo

A-Highsnobiety- Halloween-|-10-Costumes-for-Halloween 2013-1
Franklin Clinton
One of three main characters in Rockstar Games’ latest masterpiece, Franklin Clinton epitomizes the modern-day Los Angeles gangster. Short-sleeve button-ups over long-sleeve tees and unbranded work pants suspiciously similar to Dickie’s characterize the Grand Theft Auto Vstar on a cooler day, while cargo shorts and a white tank with a baseball bat are staples of warmer days. Since the clothes won’t run you too much, feel free to spend the saved dough on a White Buffalo, which in real-world terms translates to a third-generation Chevy Camaro.
Brands/designers: Dickie’s, Chevrolet, Hanes

A-Highsnobiety--Halloween-_-10-Costumes-for-Halloween-2013-2
Richard Harrow
Perhaps one of the most enigmatic characters on television, Boardwalk Empire’s Richard Harrow continues to blur the line between being mysterious and being a monster. Donning wonderful overcoats meant to take the sting out of cold nights in Atlantic City with signature caps – and of course a war wound that isn’t merely for show – Harrow’s style starts from the core and emanates outward.
Brands/designers: Ralph Lauren, Alden, Brooks Brothers

Lady Gaga Goes Braless and Barefoot, Flashes Nipples in Berlin—See the Pic

Well, it seems that Lady Gaga has indeed outdone herself.
At least, since yesterday.
Just one day after the Mother Monster stepped out wearing a giant bird-like mask over her head while promoting her upcoming album ARTPOP, the 27-year-old "Applause" singer was seen barefoot on the streets of Berlin wearing a sheer dress with no bra (natch).
The blond beauty—who wore her long locks down and subtle red lip for the occasion—held her arms up while saluting a statue, letting the loose white fabric from her eclectic dress drape over her naked body (well, almost naked, she is wearing a pair of panties).
Lady GagaTarget Presse Agentur Gmbh/Getty Images
Lady G has been busy wearing a series of bizarre outfits while promoting her forthcoming album Artpop, which is due for release Nov. 11.
In addition to her sporting her unusual chicken mask yesterday, the "Judas" singer appeared at her Artpop album launch event in the German capital on Thursday wearing a sexy black bra top, matching tights, a lingerie garter and...a mustache. She completed her vampy look with a fur coat, sky-high heels, a pink pout and elegant white lashes.
The performer most recently released her track "Do What U Want" featuring R. Kelly, and she shared a :40 second snippet of her single "Venus" on social media this morning.
"I composed ARTPOP to be a full experience, we are releasing all these songs and snippets to give you a more complete picture of the album," the pop star wrote. "You can of course always choose your favorite songs off an album but it was designed be a trip, heard from start to finish #17DAYSTillArtpop."

Unlike her famous peers, however, the Vampire Diaries actress doffed her top for the Instagram pic.

Lady Gaga Defends Miley Cyrus: “Lighten Up and Leave Her Alone!”

Lady Gaga, Miley CyrusTGB/Splash News, Theo Wargo/WireImage
Strength in solidarity! Two weeks after Miley Cyrus made headlines for her raunchy and over-the-top MTV Video Music Awards performance, one of the night's other showstoppers—Lady Gaga—came to her defense during the Sept. 11 episode of Bravo's Watch What Happens Live.
When host Andy Cohen asked the 27-year-old "Applause" singer about Cyrus' provocative "We Can't Stop/Blurred Lines" medley, she replied, "I mean, I just think everybody need to lighten up and leave her alone. Because it's pop music. Everybody's entitled to their own artistic expression, and if you have a problem with it, just change the channel."
Gaga—no stranger to controversy herself—argued that Cyrus' persecution in the media and online has been unfair. "I don't understand the incessant need to constantly go on and on about hating things all the time because, what, she's 20 years old? And if anything, I give her props," the native New Yorker said. "You know, she's growing up in front of the entire world and maybe she's not so happy with stuff she did in her career when she was younger and she wants to be free, so let her do what she wants."
During the Watch What Happens Live after show, Gaga also cleared up rumors about her alleged feud with another pop star. "I'm a very big fan of Christina Aguilera," she told Cohen. "From the very beginning of when my career started, there was all this controversy about the two of us. I always felt that it was very unfair."
She continued, "All I know is that people were talking about Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga in the same sentence, and I was nobody! I just think it's very unfair of anyone to pit another woman against another woman, especially in the space of music when we are all just trying to be taken seriously."
"Christina is an incredible vocalist and an incredible artist," she added. "From me to her, I'm so sorry for anything that anyone ever said to her because of my existence. And I hope that she never felt any way about it, because when I was 15, I was singing ‘I Turn to You' at the top of my lungs trying to hit all her notes. So she was an inspiration to me to have a wider vocal range, and I just think it's all total nonsense the way that they do that."
Gotta love girls who stick together!

Lady Gaga Covers Up (Shocker!), Wears Conservative Suit and Crazy Hat in London

Lady GagaXPOSUREPHOTOS.COM
Here's something we don't say too often: Lady Gaga is covering up!
The "Applause" singer stepped out in London earlier today wearing a much more conservative look than her nearly-naked VMAs seashell bikini thong.
The 27-year-old was dressed up in a gray business skirt and matching business jacket over a lavender bra (still no shirt, of course!). Gaga completed her mostly-covered up look with nude heels, black bag and a wild black hat with tall feathers sticking out of it. Guess even formal wear is an opportunity for Gaga to make a bold fashion statement!
Meanwhile, Gaga, who had minimal makeup on, sported long red hair with ribbons and seashells tide into her locks. She flashed a giant smile while being photographed.
Earlier this week, Gaga was spotted in NYC heading to the airport in a wild and wacky black jumpsuit that looked like it was inspired by an ‘80s Richard Simmons workout video.
Lady Gaga: always keeping us guessing.

One Direction Chime in on Miley Cyrus ("Interesting") and Taylor Swift ("She Needs to Leave Niall Alone")

Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, One DirectionJamie McCarthy/Getty Images
Let's just say, the lads of One Direction maintained a sense of humor about everything they witnessed on the MTV Video Music Awards stage this past weekend.
Talking to E! News last night at the NYC premiere of their 3-D documentary One Direction: This Is Us, they were asked what immediately came to mind when they thought of Miley Cyrus' VMAs performance.
"Twerk!" offered Liam Payne. And then they all just started talking at once.
Video Thumbnail: One Direction Tackles VMAs ControversyHarry Styles and the boys speak freely when asked about Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. See their candid replies!
"I wouldn't like to comment on this," Liam reconsidered.
"It was interesting," Harry Styles said dryly. "You're trying to get us to say something, and I thought it was a lovely, played-down performance."
"It was a lovely rendition of that song," added Louis Tomlinson, though it's unclear which was lovelier in his opinion, "We Can't Stop" or "Blurred Lines."
"It was graceful," Liam said. "Different," Zayn Malik got in on it. "Although I did like Robin Thicke's suit, that was a cool suit," Liam chimed in again.
Moving on to Lady Gaga...
"She sells seashells on the seashore!" Louis cracked, referring to the strategically placed shells that covered Gaga's chest for most of the night—even when she took the time backstage to tell 1D not to mind the haters who booed them when their "Best Song Ever" won the moon man for Song of the Summer.
Lady Gaga, One Direction, VMA'sKevin Mazur/WireImage for MTV
"She was very nice actually, she came and spoke to us for a little while," Liam recalled. "She said, 'Just don't listen to it,' really. At the end of the day, we're just happy we won the award, so we get to take home the moon man, haha!"
When asked about Taylor Swift 's thinly veiled shout-out to the person who inspired "I Knew You Were Trouble" when she accepted Best Female Video, all fingers pointed to... Niall Horan?!
"I don't know, she just started writing songs about me," Niall jested. "She became obsessed with you, didn't she now?" Louis added to the ruse.
Harry, who was seen spending time with Taylor after the show, admitted that they "had words."
"I said, you know, she needs to leave him alone," Harry said, deadpan. "I said, 'Niall is a nice guy.'"

Lady Gaga Goes Topless for ‘V Magazine’

***18 years and below strictly PROHIBITED

After giving you a sneak peek at the V Magazine editorial shot by Inez and Vinoodh, which features Lady Gaga in the nude, I now present the cover and further images from the shoot. Until very recently, Lady Gaga had remained relatively quiet throughout the duration of 2013. Following up from a video performance with Marina Abramovic, this week she debuted the first single, “Applause,” off her upcoming album ARTPOP, due out November 11.

Sorry guys if I made the 2nd photo a bit blurry. *I intended to do it
