After Linda Carey was diagnosed with breast cancer, her husband Bob began taking photos of himself wearing nothing but a pink tutu.
“When Linda would go in for treatment, she would take the images on her phone and the women would look at them and it would make them laugh and make the time pass,” Bob Carey said, according to Huffington Post.
Their friends loved the photos as well, prompting Bob, a professional commercial and fine arts photographer, to go above and beyond in search of the most hilarious settings imaginable.
Bob braved the cold and even traveled to Italy, determined to make his wife and her friends laugh harder every time.
“Oddly enough, her cancer has taught us that life is good, dealing with it can be hard, and sometimes the very best thing—no, the only thing—we can do to face another day is to laugh at ourselves, and share a laugh with others,” he said.
After The Tutu Project went viral, Bob was inspired to make a book of the images called “Ballerina,” currently on sale. All proceeds will go directly to breast cancer organizations.
When asked by the Huffington Post what he would say to people who find it difficult to laugh in the face of tragedy, Bob said:
“Just remember how much fun it was to be a kid.”
